This is the question which is n mind of most of the SEO professional’s mind. May be their hard work for last year or so has been plundered by Google and they are not in a position to answer their clients. But they should also remember that this industry existed since the inception of Internet Search. And also the industry has seen several updates before.
Caffine is the indexing program which is helping Google understand and index the pages real time through crawling images, videos and other social media platforms linked with a website and index them in real time. This is the reason for most of the updates are quite accurate by Google.
With the update there is a special focus on the long tail keywords. Most of the ecommerce sites are seen to be affected, primarily because of the single item name url they have created over a period of time. And also they had very thin content and widely separated from their anchor pages.
In order to rank, there must be an index. These are distinct process with own set of algorithms. Caffine represents a new wave in search in order to index the data accurately and rank pages based on their content and social presence.
What does it mean to me?
If you are a website owner its common practice that to check the overall site indexing in each of major search engines. Sites that were not indexed deeply should find ways to index it properly and the pages that are indexed deeply should be closely monitored to be sure that it sustained. With the panda updated, it no longer matters. Google wants everything it can see and wants it in its index. The index will not be a signal anymore but just a url registered with Google.
This means most of the pages where there are no anchor links, great content or really useful information available without much social presence such pages are going to rank low. Some of those pages might have ranked high before.
What should I do?
Adapting the following approach may give you some relief:
Decide on which URLs are important and create strong signals (sitemaps, internal links etc)
Decide on which URLs are most important and make sure they are indexed properly.
Remove all the low value, duplicate pages from your websites. This is important because this may significantly bring down the page rank
Build internal links for the URLs which can be used as authority pages
Build high value links based on social media presence and conversation. This will not only give a good look for your company for people outside but also from the search engines.
